Warlog Weekly 2009-03: Inauguration.

Warlog Weekly 2009-03: Inauguration.

A change of pace, a small detour, call it a sidestory. But one that may just play a mayor role in future tales.

So here it is:(click for bigger image)

I had this strip finished yesterday, but did not have opportunity to post it.
On a sidenote, I have muttered about some story ideas in the past concerning the previous president and his supposed allegiance with the decepticons but never quite got to it.
It just seemed to make sense that when you want to rule the world, one would try to 'persuade' the influential world leaders. Bombshell, so it seems, has his own way.

Since many of you may not have read the first parts I am providing an opportunity to catch up.
There are many ways to go about it, one is ofcourse to click on the message below or perhaps you can go to my public SkyDrive on windows live.

two quick notes...

1) In case anyone's wondering why I haven't reviewed Maximum Dinobots, the answer is simple: I haven't seen it anywhere I live. Issue #1 came out along with two other TF titles and I couldn't find it. Issue #2 came out a week or so ago and it's nowhere to be found either. My theory on why this is, is that the comic shops are getting two or three TF titles simultaneously on Wednesday. They know the titles don't sell that well, so they pick one at random (or perhaps at Diamond's suggestion) and order ten issues of it while neglecting the other title(s) entirely, hence no Maximum Dinobots. I recall two other TF titles came out with MD #1 and MD #2 had the ROTF prequel issue out at the same time--a title there is ten issues of at my comic shop (and one that I don't care about at all). Granted, I should get a comic file/subscription so it's kind of my fault I didn't get them but one would assume they'd get enough stock to satisfy walk-in customers too. As it is, I might as well wait for the TPB now (in June) as getting these comics off eBay isn't worth the extra cost to me.

2) My Heroes and Legends story serial is still going. I have the Prowl segment done in rough draft, I just need to get around to finishing it up and posting it, which should be soon (I've been sick for the past couple of weeks so I haven't gotten much done).

Comic Review...

Transformers: All Hail Megatron #6

Writer: Shane McCarthy
Artist: Guido Guidi

(Covers by Casey Coller, Trevor Hutchison and Guido Guidi)

Summary: Jazz and Kup deliberate on what to do next. Kup decides to be in charge. Elsewhere, Megatron takes out some jets while Starscream tries to grate on his nerves about the conflict and everything. Still elsewhere, Skywarp and Bombshell start a fight between the Seekers and the Insecticons, with the Seekers getting the upper hand ultimately, forcing the Insecticons to flee (the whole point of this scene is to explain that the Insecticons are some kind of bizarre science experiment of Megatron's and many of the failed attempts still reside on Cybertron as "the Swarm". These are hideous monsters). Back to Cybertron where Kup and Jazz talk some more and Kup explains how the Matrix is important and holy to them, hence he hasn't revealed to the masses about how Megatron now has it in his possession. He decides they must use their energon reserves to restore Optimus Prime--they need him now more then ever. Outside, Ironhide and Roadbuster discover one of the Swarm. It doesn't get to do much before Drift and Perceptor destroy it however. Back on Earth, Starscream taunts Megatron some more then leaves. Blitzwing arrives and Megatron tells him he wants to be alone for a while--to prepare (likely for the coming revolt that Starscream's been on about throughout the issue). In Versailles, the remaining world leaders decide to take out New York and the Decepticons new base.

Comments: It almost seems like there's a good story buried somewhere in this mess. The pacing that makes it twelve long issues however is ruining whatever intentions McCarthy originally had--it's just too padded to retain my interest. I like the odd flashes of characterization but I want some real story progression here. I have the feeling we'll hit the last couple of issues and get crammed with details and a quick unsatisfactory ending. The art is generally good (but Prowl's head crest is wrong. It needs some lines in the middle part, dammit!) But good art can only carry a lame story so far... This issue also explained what the Swarm is in the IDW context. The name makes sense but since that term was already used in G2 for something else, it's a bit confusing to a long time reader.

Mildly recommended.
